Sookie Stackhouse este o tanara telepata in varsta de 25 din Bon temps si este chelnata de doi ani in barul Merllote’s.Ea poate citi gandurile oamenirlor insa acesta ,,putere” a ei o dezavantaja deoarece ceilalti cred despre ea ca este o nebuna si o ciudata . Pana in ziua cand il intalneste pe Bill Compton vampirul din Bon Temps .Aceasta ii salveaza viata sieste mai cata sa fie captifta de ,,Sobolanii”insa Bill ii invata minte ca nu e bine sa te pui cu un vampir .Nevoita sa il scoata pe fratele ei Jason de inchisoare Sookie se duce cu Bill in barul Fantagsia pt a afla cine a fost criminalul celor doua fete 
awn si Maudette amandoua fiind recunoscute pentru relatiile lor cu vampirii … Salvandu-i poe vamprii din fangtasia Harul lui Sookie este dezvaluit si aceasta le promite vampiriilor ca ii va ajuta atunci cand au nevoie de ceva …. fiind foarte bine platia …
Sookie continua cu investigatiile ei ,insa in acest timp isi dezvolta si relatiia ei cu Bill ,intr-o seara intocandu-se de la un eveniment Sookie o gaseste pe bunica ei moarta … si este foarte decisa sa il gaseasca pe vinovat….
In cele din urma Sookie afla cine e vinovatul …Aici va las pe voi sa aflati cine e vinovatu-l …
